چکیده

Mammograms are used to screen for breast cancer and computerized analysis of these images can aid radiologists in detecting the disease. Any computerized method to analyze digitized mammograms must first partition the image into its visually and anatomically distinct regions. The pectoral muscle appears on mediolateral oblique views of mammograms and needs to be identified and segmented out before further analysis. This paper presents an algorithm for segmenting the edge of the pectoral muscle. A modification of the conventional edge detection paradigm gives rise to families of tunable parametric edge detectors, one of which has been used to extract the pectoral edge simply, controllably and reliably from mammograms.

Robust automatic breast and pectoral muscle segmentation from scanned mammograms

Breast skin–air interface and pectoral muscle segmentation are usually first steps in all CAD applications on scanned as well as digital mammograms. Breast skin–air interface segmentation is much more difficult task when performed on scanned mammograms than on digital mammograms. In case of pectoral muscle segmentation, segmentation difficulty of analog and digital mammograms is usually similar...

Removal of Pectoral Muscle Region in Digital Mammograms using Binary Thresholding

The pectoral muscle represents a predominant density region in Medio-Lateral Oblique (MLO) views of mammograms, which appears at approximately the same density as the dense tissues of interest in the image and can affect the results of image analysis methods. Therefore, segmentation of pectoral muscle is important in order to limit the search for the breast abnormalities only to the breast regi...

Segmentation of the Breast Region with Pectoral Muscle Removal in Mammograms

Breast region segmentation is an essential prerequisite in computerised analysis of mammograms. It aims at separating the breast tissue from the background of the mammogram and it includes two independent segmentations. The first segments the background region which usually contains annotations, labels and frames from the whole breast region, while the second removes the pectoral muscle portion...

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in many regions of India. One out of every 22 women is diagnosed with breast cancer. Mammography acts as an early detection tool for breast cancer and can detect tumors up to two years before it can be felt. Numerous studies have shown that the early detection saves lives and increases treatment options. Mammography is one of the X-ray...

License Plate Recognition from Low-Quality Videos

Mammography is the best method for early mass detection. In order to limit the search for abnormalities by Computer Aided Diagnosis systems to the region of the breast without undue influence from the background of the mammogram, extraction of the breast contour and pectoral muscle is necessary. Breast contour helps to find the position of the nipple, which its position is important for mass de...
